The Twisted Star quilt is formed from three relatively simple blocks.  Fabric placement and alternating blocks in the design give the appearance of interlocking chains.  This class also focuses on fun and easy techniques that result in perfect points - half square triangles and constructed star points.   This pattern is a Sue Bouchard original.

S4 - Tree of Life

Instructor:              Mary Lou Casada

Project:                   56” x 72”

Skill Level:              All Levels

Project Type:          Machine

The Tree of Life block is intimidating because of its many small pieces and set-in piecing for the base/trunk.  Using triangle papers, however, makes constructing the small pieces of the tree much simpler, and freezer paper templates will make the set-in pieces easier as well.  Come make a wall-hanging with 4" to 9" tree of life blocks set on point and experience the satisfaction of tackling this challenging but beautiful block!  Or begin with the 4 blocks we'll try to finish in class and continue to make a larger size at home.

Skill Level - Intermediate / Advanced

Project Size 38" x 38"

S5 - Miniatures and Fun (and Easy):  Lone Star

Instructor:              Cath Evans

Project:                   28” wall-hanging

Skill Level:              Adventurous Beginner

Project Type:          Machine

Kit/Pattern Fee:      Pattern included in class fee.

Minatures are fun to make, require less fabric and sew together much more quickly and easily than larger versions of the same quilt.  Master techniques on a small quilt.  Bias strip piecing is easier when working with smaller strips.  Learn to set in squares and triangles and how to achieve an absolutely flat quilt center.

S6 - Nine Patch Plaid

Instructor:              Sarah Frye

Project:                   49” square with borders

Skill Level:              Beginner

Project Type:          Machine

Kit/Pattern Fee:      $8 for pattern

Click here for the Materials List

This quilt is my original design and is made from traditional nine patch blocks. It looks much more complicated than it is. It does require some creative placement and cutting but by using only nine of the nine patch blocks you will make the inner part of the quilt which measures 36" square. You may make your nine patch blocks ahead of time so the quilt top should easily be finished in a one day class. This is a great idea for a baby quilt or you could enlarge it for a guy's quilt.

S7 - Mended Hearts

Instructor:              Shirley Lips

Project:                   40" x 60" quilt

Skill Level:              Beginner

Project Type:          Machine

Kit/Pattern Fee:      $5 for pattern

Click here for the Materials List

This original pattern by Shirley Lips was so popular two years ago, she is offering it again this year.  Students will learn the Stack-n-Slash and Switch-n-Stitch technique as well as fusible web machine appliqué to make this heart quilt.  Other techniques/skills taught include rotary cutting, proper pressing, and color placement.

S8 - Triangular Log Cabin

Instructor:              Denise Stewart

Project:                   Large Double Quilt

Skill Level:              Adventurous Beginners

Project Type:          Machine

Kit/Pattern Fee:      Pattern included in class fee.

Click here for the Materials List

Try out one of Denise Stewart’s newest patterns - a triangular log cabin.  Explore the 60° angle of your standard ruler to make this variation on a traditional log cabin block.  Denise’s technique makes this quilt simpler than it looks to make.
